Mapping is a form of language. As a language for political geography, the idea of Siam's territory was created by modern cartography. Its formation in the late 19th century, however, involved tensions and conflicts with the pre-modern political geography.
In his lecture, Professor Thongchai Winichakul will draw some comparisons with cartography in Japan.
