One consequence of Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity is the existence of gravitational waves. In 2015, these gravitational waves were detected for the first time by researchers led by Professor Barry C. Barish. For that achievement, Barish was a co-winner of the 2017 Nobel Prize in physics.
This March, Tohoku Forum for Creativity and Tokyo Electron Limited are proud to present a special lecture by Barish, on the discovery of gravitational waves and future developments in the field. The Nobel Laureate will be joined by Tohoku University Professor Hitoshi Yamamoto, who will give a brief introduction to the broad subject.
