On November 6, Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi attended the 11th Forum for Japanese and Chinese University Presidents in Tokyo. The forum, which was first held in the year 2000, seeks to not only contribute to the promotion of academic and student exchanges between Japan and China, but also to encourage the search for new paradigms in university education and research in both countries. Furthermore, it seeks to promote positive action towards the realization of initiatives in various spheres. It is held alternately in Japan and China every two years.
This year's forum was held under the theme of "Connect the Present and the Future, Open a New Door of Cooperation." Presidents or their representatives from 23 Japanese and 18 Chinese universities and insitutions attended the forum where they all enjoyed lively debates. While at the forum, Vice President Yamaguchi took the opportunity to hold individual talks with representatives from four universities with which Tohoku University maintains academic exchange agreements: The University of Science and Technology of China, Beijing Normal University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Harbin Institute of Technology. During the talks, both sides discussed the possibility of future academic exchanges.
The next forum is scheduled to be held in 2021 at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong Province, China.
