Tohoku University presents an afternoon of nostalgic choral music with conductor Kazuki Yamada and the Philharmonic Chorus of Tokyo, accompanied by Mami Hagiwara on the piano. The February concert is the 4th installment of the 2017-18 Four Seasons Program at Kawauchi Hagi Hall.
Yamada studied music under renowned maestros Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi and Yoko Matsuo at Tokyo University of the Arts. There, he co-foundered and was director of a student orchestra that would eventually be incorporated professionally as Yokohama Sinfonietta.
He won first prize at the Besancon International Conducting Competition in 2009, and followed that with the Akeo Watanabe Music Foundation Music Award, the Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award and many other international accolades. He has conducted orchestras across Japan and Europe, and is currently the Principal Conductor and Artistic Director Designate of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo.
