The International 雷速体育_中国足彩网¥在线直播 Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), Tohoku University and NHK Media Technology are jointly organizing a disaster risk reduction event in commemoration of the 4 year anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. The event is also sponsored by the Tohoku Forum for Creativity. Please come and join us for this memorable event.
Simultaneous English and Japanese interpretation is available. Admission is free of charge, but you need to register at the following site. Early registration is encouraged due to the limited number of seats.
Program
Part One: Symposium (12:30pm ~ 5:00pm)
World-class disaster risk reduction researchers and practitioners will gather from various countries, including Canada, Denmark, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Switzerland and the United States. We will discuss how to bridge gaps between academia and societal needs, and report on the recovery status since the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Finally, we will propose a new international forum on disaster risk reduction in collaboration with public, private, academic, and other stakeholders. This will be held following the Sendai UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

Part Two: Movie night (6:00pm ~ 8:00pm)
A screening of the the 3D documentary The Great Tsunami: Remembering for the future (80 min). The film was produced by NHK Media Technology that continuously filmed people and tsunami affected areas since the Great East Japan Earthquake. The documentary conveys the voices of local people and the changing landscapes of Tohoku's coastal areas, with super realistic images captured by 3D cameras. Prof. Fumihiko Imamura, Director of IRIDeS supervised the film, which won the 2014 Lumiere Japan Award from the International 3D & Advanced Imaging Society. Prior to the film starting, a thirty-minute talk show will be held with Prof. Imamura, Film Director Atsunori Kawamura and others. (The talk show will only be in Japanese. The film is both for English and Japanese speaking audiences.)
