Our ocean is changing faster than ever, impacting the climate we live in, the marine life and the well-being of communities worldwide. Responding to these changes requires science that bridges disciplines, borders and societies.
From February 4 - 6, 2026, the Advanced Institute for Marine Ecosystem Change (WPI-AIMEC) and the Nature Positive Sustainable Development Hub will host a three-day symposium in Tokyo designed for collaboration, dialogue and co-design. The event brings science, technology, policy and society into conversation to help build a more resilient and sustainable future for the ocean. Participation is open to anyone with an interest in the ocean and its long-term health.
The symposium features two international initiatives under the UN Ocean Decade:
- COSMEC (Collaborations for Northwest Pacific Marine Ecosystem Prediction), an international, integrated and collaborative science platform to advance prediction and understanding of marine ecosystem changes in the Northwest Pacific.
- ANEMONE Global, an international collaborative network dedicated to monitoring biodiversity using environmental DNA (eDNA), aiming for long-term biodiversity assessments and international policy efforts.
