Recruitment Notice: Sr. Assistant Professor (Institute for Excellence in Higher Education)

The Institute for Excellence in Higher Education at Tohoku University is recruiting for the following position.

Job Description

The successful candidate will actively participate in promoting English language education reform and teaching English courses. They will also be involved in:

  • 雷速体育_中国足彩网¥在线直播, development, evaluation, and improvement of the General Education English curriculum
  • Additional work at the Center for Culture and Language Education, the Institute for Excellence in Higher Education, and Gateway College.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in English education or a related field, or equivalent qualifications
  • Extensive experience in teaching English language at a university level
  • Necessary educational experience and research achievements for carrying out the responsibilities described above
  • Enthusiasm and ability to take a leadership role in English language education reform
  • Ability to teach all levels and types of English proficiency-based classes, and in principle available to teach during any time slot
  • High-level proficiency in Japanese is required, regardless of the applicant's country of origin (please submit a copy of your Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) score report or equivalent certificate, if available.)

  1. Curriculum Vitae, with a photograph attached (please download and use this form that follows the University's format: link.)
  2. List of educational and research achievements (separate into books, journal articles, conference presentations, and others.) For journal articles, list only those that are published or in press. Clearly state whether each article is peer-reviewed or non-peer-reviewed, and classify them as "peer-reviewed articles" or "non-peer-reviewed articles." Number each item consecutively within each category. For educational achievements, clearly state the name of the institution, course title, period of instruction, number of class hours for each course, and the level of the students.
  3. Three major research papers (PDFs) selected from the list in (2) above, and Japanese summaries of each paper (approximately 300 Japanese characters per paper).
  4. Statement 1: Based on your experience in English language education and your teaching skills, describe how you can contribute to the development, evaluation, improvement, and administration of Tohoku University's university-wide English education curriculum (approximately 2,000 Japanese characters or 1,000 words in English.)
  5. Statement 2 Describe what you think to be important considerations and perspectives when creating effective EFL teaching materials at Tohoku University. (Approximately 1,000 Japanese characters or 600 words in English)
  6. One letter of recommendation
  7. The name, affiliation, and contact information of an additional individual who can provide insight into your qualifications, separate from the recommender mentioned in item (6).
  8. If Japanese is not your first language, please submit a copy of your Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) score certificate, or an equivalent exam score, if available.

Documents must be sent to iehe-kobogrp.tohoku.ac.jp with "CLC2026-E2" in the subject field.

Applicants must submit the listed materials in PDF format, protected by a password. The password must be provided by a separate e-mail. Please make sure to check the confirmation of receipt. If you do not receive the confirmation within two business days (excluding weekends, holidays, and other non-working days) after the submission date, be sure to call and confirm whether your application documents have been received.

Recommendation letters must be sent directly to the designated email address by the recommender, separately from the other application materials.
