The evening was divided into two parts. In the first, students heard from staff and faculty members who spoke on student life at the university. Various campus facilities and student services, such as health care, counselling and career support, were also introduced.

Officers from Miyagi Police were on hand to go through the city's traffic rules, bicycle safety, as well as share tips for avoiding crime.

In the second half of the evening, students were encouraged to visit the more than 10 booths set up by community interest groups.

Sendai Tourism, Convention and International Association (SenTIA) and Miyagi International Association (MIA) have long been a bridge between the city's local and foreign communities.

While popular student groups like the Tohoku University Foreign Student Association (TUFSA) and Tohoku University Volunteer Support Center (SCRUM) are active in community outreach.

The participating organisations reflect and celebrate Tohoku University and Sendai's cultural diversity. It is hoped that they offer a way for international students to meet new friends, interact with like-minded local people and contribute to the community.

The International PR Section joins the rest of the university in welcoming one and all to the Tohoku University family.
